MUG BROWNIE

Scalloped Potatoes is a classic comfort food dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes layered with a creamy sauce and baked to perfection. Here’s a simple recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients:

  • – 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • – 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • – 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • – 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • – 2 cups whole milk
  • – 1 cup heavy cream
  • – 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • – 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves)
  • – Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • – 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (such as cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan)
  • – Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

3. Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and garlic, stirring constantly to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the roux is lightly golden.

4. Gradually pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Cook the sauce for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

5. Stir in the dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to taste. Remove the sauce from the heat.

6. Arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, overlapping slightly. If desired, scatter some thinly sliced onions over the potatoes.

7. Pour a portion of the cream sauce over the potatoes, spreading it evenly to cover them.

8. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese over the sauce.

9. Repeat the layers of potatoes, sauce, and cheese until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cheese on top.

10. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

11. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

12. Once done, remove the scalloped potatoes from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

13. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot as a side dish with your favorite main course.

These homemade Scalloped Potatoes are creamy, cheesy, and comforting, making them the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Enjoy the rich and indulgent flavors of this classic dish with friends and family!
