Deep-Fried Oreos

Deep-fried Oreos are a decadent indulgence that takes the beloved classic cookie to a whole new level of deliciousness. Originating from state fairs and carnival stalls, this indulgent treat has become a popular sensation, beloved by food enthusiasts seeking a sweet and crispy delight.

To create deep-fried Oreos, the iconic sandwich cookies are first dipped into a rich and creamy batter, typically made from a mixture of flour, eggs, milk, and sometimes a hint of vanilla extract or powdered sugar. This batter envelops the Oreos in a light, airy coating, which serves as a protective barrier during the frying process.

Once coated, the Oreos are carefully lowered into a pot or fryer filled with hot oil, where they undergo a magical transformation. As they sizzle and fry, the batter crisps up to form a golden-brown shell, while the heat gently melts the creamy filling within the cookie, creating a luscious contrast of textures.

When the deep-fried Oreos emerge from their hot oil bath, they are nothing short of irresistible. Each bite reveals a symphony of flavors and textures: the crispiness of the fried batter gives way to the warm, gooey center of the Oreo, with its familiar blend of rich chocolate cookie and sweet, creamy filling. The contrast between the crunchy exterior and the soft, melty interior is sheer perfection, creating a sensory experience that is both comforting and exhilarating.

To elevate the experience even further, deep-fried Oreos are often served piping hot, dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with a decadent chocolate sauce. These finishing touches add an extra layer of sweetness and indulgence, turning each bite into a moment of pure bliss.

Whether enjoyed at a fairground, a carnival, or homemade in the comfort of your own kitchen, deep-fried Oreos are a guilty pleasure that never fails to delight. With their irresistible combination of crispy, crunchy, and creamy, they are sure to satisfy even the most insatiable sweet tooth and leave you craving more.

Ingredients:

  • • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
    • 1 cup pancake mix
    • 1 (18-ounce) package cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreo)

Directions:

I heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large bowl, I whisk together milk, egg, and 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil until the mixture becomes smooth. Then, I stir in the pancake mix until there are no dry lumps left.
I dip the cookies into the batter, one at a time, and carefully place them into the hot oil. I fry them in batches, typically 4 or 5 at a time, until the cookies achieve a golden brown color, which takes about 2 minutes. After frying, I drain them on a paper towel-lined plate before serving.
