Salt & Pepper Steak

Salt and pepper steak is a classic dish that showcases the natural flavor of the meat, enhanced by the simple yet powerful combination of salt and pepper. This dish is all about quality ingredients and proper cooking technique to create a delicious and satisfying meal.

To make salt and pepper steak, start by selecting a high-quality cut of steak, such as ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak. Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow it to come to temperature.

While the steak is resting, prepare your seasoning mixture. In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, and any additional seasonings you like, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika. Mix the seasonings together and set aside.

Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil, such as olive oil or vegetable oil. Once the skillet is hot, add the steak to the pan. Cook the steak for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more well-done. Use tongs to flip the steak halfway through cooking.

Once the steak is cooked to your desired doneness, remove it from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a juicier steak.

To serve, slice the steak against the grain into thin slices. Sprinkle the slices with the salt and pepper seasoning mixture and serve immediately. Salt and pepper steak pairs well with a variety of side dishes, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple salad.
